What is Qurbani?

Qurbani (also known as Udhiyah or Zabiha) is the sacrifice of an animal during the days of Eid Al-Adha. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah (SWT).

Who must give Qurbani? Every sane Muslim who is not travelling and possesses wealth above the Nisab threshold must perform Qurbani. In the Hanafi school, it is wajib (obligatory).

When is Qurbani performed? Qurbani can be performed from the 10th to the 12th of Dhul Hijjah (the days of Eid Al-Adha). In 2026, this is expected to be 27–30 May.

Each share represents one sheep or goat, or one-seventh of a cow, bull, or buffalo. The fresh meat is distributed to families in need so they too can enjoy the blessings of Eid.
